Life in Sweden – Autumn Magic, Berry Bliss, and ALMI Becomes Swedish

Life in Sweden – From Summer to Autumn

Summer has long since bid farewell; autumn has arrived, bringing with it the serene calm of the North. Our life in Sweden has settled into a rhythm—between walks with Lina and Ayla, the scent of forest berries, and the golden hues of the birch trees.

While everything outside is changing, much is in motion for us as well: new routines, small projects, and the joy of living in this magnificent landscape.

And after a long journey filled with forms, waiting times, and inspections, an important chapter has finally concluded—the official registration of my camper ALMI in Sweden. 🇸🇪

Berry Picking in Late Summer

Late summer was all about berries. We went searching for cloudberries, and although the media claimed it was a poor year, we managed to find a few. Just enough for some delicious jam and a few straight from the bush into our mouths.

Blueberries also grow abundantly in the forest here. We picked diligently and baked the occasional fruit tart—a slice of summer on the plate.

Though “we” might be a bit of an exaggeration. While I was busy picking, Lina and Ayla mainly served as the moral support team. 😅

But there was plenty to discover not only in the woods but also in the garden: red and black currants, along with raspberries in all colors— even black currants, which I had never tasted straight from the bush before. Among all the berries, huge rhubarb plants were hiding, which delighted me, even though they aren’t strictly berries. 😉

Funny Discoveries on the Road

We sometimes come across charming Swedish quirks during our travels. One particular road sign made us chuckle:

“Kör sakta – lekande pensionär”
meaning “Drive slowly – playing retirees”.

A wonderful example of the dry, affectionate humor of the Swedes! Moments like these make everyday life special here and showcase how warm and relaxed life in Sweden often is.

Projects Around the House

There was plenty to do at home as well. We built pallet furniture and a small section of the fence, and repaired the greenhouse—small but rewarding projects. Such tasks are especially satisfying when you see what you’ve created with your own hands at the end of the day.

Though “we” is more symbolic this time too—I did the building, while Lina and Ayla took on the supervisory role. With plenty of lounging comfort and occasional supervising glances. 😉

Autumn Colors and Photos with the Dogs

Autumn here in the North is simply breathtaking. The forests glow in vibrant shades of yellow, orange, and red, and the light has a special, clear depth.

I took the opportunity to do a little autumn photo shoot with my dogs. The colors and light beautifully captured the beauty of nature—and the dogs clearly enjoyed themselves. For me, such days are an integral part of life in Sweden, where nature shapes every moment.

A New Swede on Wheels

The big topic of recent weeks: ALMI is now officially Swedish! 🇸🇪🇨🇭

After a lot of paperwork, waiting, origin checks, and minor difficulties, everything finally worked out—and we now proudly hold the Swedish license plates in our hands.

A small but significant milestone.

However, before we can go to the besiktning, the technical inspection, there’s one completely unexpected challenge: attaching the license plates! 🤣
Believe it or not, nothing seems to fit properly—as if Swiss and Swedish screws were developed in entirely different universes.

Hopefully, this is truly the last item on this long to-do list…

Time for Coziness

Amidst all the activities, there was also space for quieter moments. I did some knitting again—with a beautiful yarn I got here (a big thank you for that!). Evenings like these, with knitting and tea, are simply part of the Nordic autumn for me and have become an integral part of our life in Sweden.

A Conclusion with Gratitude

From berry picking to registering ALMI—this summer and autumn in Sweden have been colorful, challenging, and beautiful all at once.

We are grateful for all that we get to experience and look forward to everything yet to come—more seasons, projects, and small adventures that make our life in Sweden so special.

Not everything always goes smoothly, and there are days full of waiting, improvising, or quiet bewilderment. Yet, in these moments, I realize how supported we are—and how much peace there is in letting go and trusting.
